Gadget Baj – Mobile Phone Price in Bangladesh 2025

Introduction
Gadget Baj presents the evolution of mobile phones in Bangladesh—from the bulky brick phones of the 1990s to today’s advanced smartphones. Our journey reflects the rapid technological advancements and the dynamic nature of the mobile market in Bangladesh.

The Brick Phone Era
In the 1990s, mobile phones in Bangladesh were much larger and heavier than today’s devices. They featured external antennas and were designed solely for making calls. Despite their simplicity and high cost, owning one was considered a prestigious status symbol. Over time, these phones became obsolete as technology progressed.

Feature Phones
At the beginning of the 21st century, a new generation of phones emerged—feature phones (often referred to as “bar phones” or “button phones” in Bangladesh). These devices offered several enhancements over their predecessors, including:

  • Text messaging and MMS
  • Polyphonic ringtones and MP3 support
  • FM radio and a 3.5 mm headphone jack
  • Simple games and Bluetooth connectivity
  • Some models even featured a low-resolution back camera

During this period, Nokia’s iconic models such as the Nokia 3310, 1100, 1110, 3210, 6600, and 2600 achieved immense popularity on both local and global levels. As new brands introduced innovative features, the reliability of Nokia and Samsung remained unmatched.

Smartphones
In the mid-2000s, the first generation of smartphones was introduced. Nokia’s N series and BlackBerry became prominent names during this time. Although these early smartphones lacked touchscreens and a rich app ecosystem, they offered improved camera quality, increased storage, and enhanced multimedia capabilities. Until the arrival of the 3G network in Bangladesh in 2012, internet access was limited to slower GPRS connections.

Android Smartphones
A major turning point came at the end of 2008 with the launch of the HTC Dream—the first commercial Android phone. Android quickly began to reshape the market with its innovative app ecosystem and versatile functionalities. Following the introduction of the 3G network in Q4 2012, Android smartphones rapidly gained popularity in Bangladesh, with brands like Symphony and Samsung leading the way. As of March 2023, Android holds a 70.93% global market share and an impressive 95.72% market share in Bangladesh, while Apple’s iOS has a 28.37% global share and just 3.81% in Bangladesh.
